Robert Koch (1843 - 1910) was a German physician and bacteriologist regarded as one of the principal founders of modern bacteriology. Early life and education

Robert Koch was born on 11 December 1843 in Clausthal, in the Harz mountains of the Kingdom of Hanover, into a large mining family. [1] He studied medicine at the University of Gottingen, where he came into contact with anatomists and physiologists who encouraged rigorous laboratory investigation.
