Joe Biden (born 1942) is an American politician who served as the 46th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a United States senator from Delaware for 36 years and as vice president under Barack Obama. [1]
Early life and Senate career
Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born on 20 November 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He trained as a lawyer and, in 1972, at the age of 29, was elected to the United States Senate from Delaware, a seat he held for 36 years, chairing the Judiciary and Foreign Relations committees. [1]
Vice presidency
Biden served two terms as vice president under Barack Obama, from 2009 to 2017, playing a prominent role in economic and foreign policy. [1][2]
Presidency, 2021 to 2025
Biden won the 2020 election against the incumbent Donald Trump. His administration oversaw the response to the later stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, major infrastructure and climate legislation, and support for Ukraine following the Russian invasion of 2022. He did not complete a bid for a second term and left office in January 2025. [2][3]
