Donald Trump (born 1946) is an American businessman, television personality and politician who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 and returned to office as the 47th president in 2025. Before entering politics he was known for his real-estate company and as host of the reality television programme The Apprentice. [1]
Early life and business
Donald John Trump was born on 14 June 1946 in the New York City borough of Queens. He graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and joined his family's real-estate business, which he took over and renamed the Trump Organization. He expanded it into Manhattan property, hotels, casinos and golf resorts, and licensed his name to a wide range of ventures. [1][2]

From 2004 Trump hosted and co-produced the reality television series The Apprentice, which broadened his national celebrity. [2]
Presidency, 2017 to 2021
Running as a Republican, Trump won the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton. His first term included large tax-cut legislation, the appointment of three Supreme Court justices, and a restructuring of trade and immigration policy. He was impeached twice by the House of Representatives and acquitted both times by the Senate. He was defeated by Joe Biden in the 2020 election. [1][3]

Trump won the 2024 election and was inaugurated as the 47th president in January 2025, becoming the first person since Grover Cleveland to serve two non-consecutive terms. [1]
